In October 2007 a collection day and memorial parade were held in East Belfast in order to raise money for the Ulster Tower in the Somme area of France.
A total of £1625 was raised and in April 2008 45 of the Cosy's members returned to the Ulster Tower to honour a promise they had made to the caretaker during their April
2007 visit.
The work that the caretaker and his wife do is outstanding and they no longer receive financial support from government etc so it is crucial that anyone who believes in honouri
ng the memory and bravery of the 36th Ulster Division will help channel funds to ensure that the Ulster Tower and Thiepval Wood can continue to serve as a fitting memorial for
generations to come.
The Cosy are planning a collection day and memorial parade to be held within the next few months and hope that they can get the same level of support from Bands and other Somme
Associations as they got in 2007.
Details will be published in Purple Standard.
